Description

Tatnall Alumni, Parents, Students, and friends of Clee Edgar are coming together to raise money towards the construction of a 24' x 10' lacrosse "wall ball wall" in Clee's memory. The wall will be erected between the Turf Field and the Baseball field, facing Weymouth field where Clee was a constant presence, and will be decorated with Tatnall lacrosse branding with a special tribute to Clee's memory inscribed at the top.

"The Father of DE High School Lacrosse"

A legendary figure in the sport, Clee was known as "The Founding Father of Delaware Men’s Lacrosse" and was one of the most decorated coaches in state history. After a standout playing career at the University of North Carolina, he brought his passion for the game to Upland Country Day School, where he founded their lacrosse program in 1968. He joined Tatnall in 1984 and established our storied lacrosse program in 1986. Under his leadership, Tatnall lacrosse teams played for State Championships eight times between 1986 and 1998, securing four titles in 1989, 1990, 1993, and 1994. In recognition of his coaching excellence, he was named Delaware Coach of the Year in 1998, was inducted into the Delaware Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2000, and was among our inaugural inductees to the Tatnall Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021. The Edgar Trophy, awarded to the state champion each spring at the Blue/Gold game, was named for him during his time as Tatnall head coach.

Donations

All donations are tax-deductible and will go to support the $30,000 cost of the wall's construction.

In Memory of Clee Edgar

Clee served as a teacher of Latin and History, and Tatnall’s Head of Middle School, from 1984 until 1996 before returning to his alma mater Upland Country Day School, where he continued to teach and coach until his retirement in 2016. Throughout his life, he maintained his deeply rooted connections within the Tatnall community, and he returned as an assistant Varsity lacrosse coach in 2019. Clee was a constant presence on the sidelines at all Tatnall sporting events, and his dedication to coaching endured right until his passing. His impact on Tatnall’s students and lacrosse program will never be forgotten.
